The workshop titled Let’s Get Regulated: Trauma-Informed Play Therapy Interventions That Improve Regulation for Youth and Families helps all mental health professionals better support clients who present with dysregulation by teaching them easy-to- implement trauma-informed play therapy interventions. Come ready to boost your own skills while you deepen your understanding of how to support youth and the adults caring for them to get regulated—playfully!

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

1. Participants will explore their own beliefs about trauma-informed practice and identify one paradigm shift that could improve their clinical play therapy practice.

2. Participants will specifically discover whether they feel more competent and confident in supporting youth or adults with regulation as play therapists and explore why that might be as well as how it could contribute to professional biases.

3. Participants will learn how to teach young kids, big kids (e.g., teens), and adults about their nervous system responses using creative visuals and a play therapy tool designed by Ms. Jen that specifically aligns with Dr. Daniel Siegel and Dr. Stephen Porges’ work.

4. Participants will apply Ms. Jen’s play therapy tools and ideas to their own care in response to dysregulation at work as a play therapist and in life.

5. Participants will explore trauma-informed play therapy interventions, brainstorm questions for processing those interventions both inside and outside of their metaphors, and discuss which interventions they may utilize or modify to best meet their clients’ needs.

6. Participants will practice trauma-informed coaching tips that will help other adults help kids outside the play therapy office—whether that’s at home, at school, or in the community.

Jen Alexander, M.A., NCC, SB-RPT Trauma-Informed School Counselor, Author, Keynote Speaker, and Consultant

Jen Alexander is an experienced trauma-informed educator, school counselor, registered school-based play

therapist, expert on childhood trauma, global speaker, and consultant. She is also the author of Building

Trauma-Sensitive Schools (plus more!) and Iowa’s 2017 play therapist of the year. After serving youth and

families in public schools for over twenty years, Jen now travels and trains mental health professionals and

educators internationally. Known by children and adults alike as “Ms. Jen," she loves helping kids—and

giving others the tools and strategies they need to help kids, too.

Cancellation Policy

Requests for refunds must be made via email to [email protected] and received on or before June 6th. There is a $20 administrative fee for refunds. No refunds or cancellations will be accepted after the deadline.

Continuing Education Credits

Each full day presentation is approved for 6.0 contact hours for the following CE types

· APT Approved Provider 07-195 (Association for Play Therapy)

· Self-Evaluation/Self-Report Programs (Social Work, Psychology, Etc.)

Please reference your particular licensure requirements to determine if the program will meet your profession's guidelines for continuing education credits for both full day workshops. Play therapy credit will not be awarded to non-mental health professionals. Certificates of attendance will be provided for a record of CE's at no charge. We will not be providing CE certificates.
